Poleteismo of Mideo Cruz – Is An Art?
Mideo Cruz, a Visual Artist and former student of University of Sto. Tomas has gained a big controversy when his artwork called “Poleteismo” which according to him means ‘many beliefs’ or ‘many deities’. It is displayed in a exhibit called “Kulo” at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). Anyway, the exhibit is now shut down because of this controversies.
In his artwork “Poleteismo”, He put some calendar pictures of various politicians and some famous persons like Imelda Marcos, Fernando Poe Jr., Avril Lavigne and even the pictures and images of Mother Mary and Jesus Christ. Cartoon Characters like Mickey Mouse, Ronald Mc Donalds. He put also some condoms and penis at the image and cross of Jesus Christ and painted some rude and foul words that mocks our Lord Jesus Christ.
I am a also simple artist, a trying hard music artist and graphic artist and I don’t see any Arts in his visual artwork of Mideo Cruz called artwork “Poleteismo”. I cant think what is in His mind and why he choose to create a his so called “Poleteismo” and where did he got the idea. I dont want to judge him, but when I watched him being interviewed in television, he said that he is an “Atheist”.
Yes, all of us have the right to express our feeling by doing any arts but His artwork show a disrespect to all Christians, and even not Christians can say his art is a “Junk”.

I don’t know if this ma-Arteh guy included his pics in his Poleteismo artwork at hinamak din niya . Forgive them Father because they don’t know what they are doing.

Hi, I regret not having seen his “artwork” because then I would have gained more right in expressing my disappointment and (for lack of better term) disgust over his so-called art.
Anyway, I hope you don’t mind that I copied one of the pics from your blog onto mine because I didn’t get to have any pics of my own, I did put your link.

maganda yung explanation regarding this work. we just need to open our minds. i am also against what he did lalo ung lagyan ng penis ang noo ni God.. pero still hindi naman yun lang ang explanation ng art niya.. ang siste kasi sa atin mga Filipino, sa isang bagay lang tayo naka tingin..

what is the issue that arose on the exhibit of Mideo Cruz?.Is it the image which was desecrated or God,who was desecrated?.If you are a Bible reader,then you will know the real answer of my question.if you are interested in my answer,I will be willing to explain through biblical proofs.

On Mideo Cruz’s Controversial Art Exhibit: Ano kaya Mideo kung lagyan ko rin ng ari sa mukha ang larawan ng mga magulang mo at i-display sa international art exhibit, magustuhan mo kaya? Masabi mo pa kaya ang mga katagang “Freedom of Expression”? Tama si Mr. Yancey, baliw ang (tinatawag na) artist na walang kontrol at mababaw ang kaalaman sa art!
Art is also the CORRECT EXPRESSION of anything/ something .. not only FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION..
your freedom of expression ends when the right of others begins. i condemn that. and i know that the Christian community unanimously condemns that blasphemous act that disgraced our God and our religion!

In this case, I’m being bias because…
As an ARTIST, there is no right and wrong. any artist can do whatever art they want as long as it is for the sake of art alone. He explains what his art means and what this is all about. He did not just put only the images of the religion but also some other well known people. It is said that his art means, “many beliefs”. and we as person also have many things we believe too.
I’m also a ROMAN CATHOLIC so I also felt being offended by an artist. Even though he is an “atheist” he don’t have the rights to put disgrace to the image of our religion. but as I say, it is his art. We are the only one who give meanings of an art as we it without even knowing the true meaning of one’s art.
For my conclusion, I can only say that we should open our minds and not being someone who only thinks that this such people are insane… They only show an art only a person who owns love of art can really appreciate it. Call me insane but it is true. I’m not with the side of Mideo Cruz, but instead, I just want to end this silly talks from people who closes their mind with what their first impression tells them.
Just an advice, before you judge a book, read it’s content and not only the title…

am hindi ko parin lubos maisip kung bakit napasok sa isipan ni emideo cruz ang ganong art kasi kung titignan mo talaga wala syang respeto kay god kasi parang basta
hindi ko sya maintindihan,,alam wala akong right na mag judje pero mali talaga kahit lawakan ko pa ang isip ko,,
sana bigyan nya ng matinong explenation yon…
